Custom Photo Tour

We'll work together to craft an itinerary that fits your needs and schedule.
Please submit a PRIVATE TOUR INQUIRY FORM and I'll be back to you shortly!

What You'll Learn:

Upon arrival we'll scout the location, exploring lighting and conditions. We'll discuss lighting quality, lighting direction, metering, exposing for the highlights, composition and perspective.

We'll cover how to find the sweet spot of your lens and discuss the difference between being "sharp" or "in focus". We review how to use manual focus, white balance and a cable release or self timer.

If you are not already shooting in manual mode, I will help you make the transition. You will also have the option of learning how to shoot for focus stacking.

At the end of the photo tour, you will be sent an invite into Portland Photo Tour Forum. This is a group open only to those who have participated in a Portland Photo Tour and are interested in learning, inspiring and having fun with photography. Tag me on the images you post in the forum and I will give you feedback!

Requirements:

DSLR or mirrorless camera

Wide angle lens - 28mm or wider is preferred (18mm on crop sensor)
Tripod

Filters (depends on photo tour and time day)

Cable release (optional)

Food/Drinks - please pack a lunch and water

Capable of walking/hiking a minimum of 2 miles carrying your equipment.

Extra lens cloths- spray from waterfalls will get droplets on your lens!

Waterproof hiking shoes and appropriate hiking attire for the weather.

Filters:

Filters are a must in any landscape photographer's bag. Neutral density filters create blurred water and/or clouds. Polarizing filters and graduated neutral density filters help darken skies. We will discuss which filters would be best for your photo tour and time of day you chose.

Weather:

Photo tours are typically rain or shine, but can be canceled under extreme weather conditions. I want you to receive the best images possible and if heavy rain (not your typical Portland sprinkle) or other weather conditions prevent that, we will reschedule. If a photo tour is canceled, you will have the choice of receiving a full refund or rescheduling. Please be sure to leave a phone number where you can be reached the day of your photo tour.

Meeting Location:

Hotel Lucia, 400 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205. Please meet in the back of the lobby by the David Hume art collection.

More Info:

You can sit back and relax while I drive you in my commercially insured, all-wheel drive, SUV with all weather tires.

If you are not interested in f-stops, shutter speeds and other camera settings, but want to be shown some of the top photo locations in Oregon, this photo tour can be non-technical. Although, we will discuss lighting, composition and best angles.

Pricing is for 1-2 people. Additional hours are $75 per hour. Hours are consecutive. Please inquire for pricing for 3+ people. Children ages 10-17 may attend with a registered legal guardian.

I can teach you how to shoot for focus stacking and image blending, but post production is necessary for each of these techniques. A post processing lesson can be added for $100 for 1 hour.
