private lesson for 1-2

Photography opens the door to a life of exploration, creativity and technology. Children who are passionate about photography have a reason to get outside and discover the world around them. Do you love to hike? travel? Photography can help keep your child involved and engaged during family outings.

Do you have a teen looking to build a resume or a college application? Photography is an excellent addition to any resume. Every business needs photography and being able to contribute, regardless of your position, is an asset to a company.

The lesson is completely custom to your child's experience and interest. One legal guardian per child must attend, no charge if non-participating (no camera or questions).

What You'll Learn:

This photo tour is very custom and highly depends on your child's experience, age, interests and equipment. Children under 18, at one point, attended my group tours with a legal guardian, but I found this did not serve the child well. Every child is so different, I decided custom private tours was best way to go.

No specific camera is necessary! There is plenty to learn in photography regardless of what equipment you own. With just a cell phone, I can help your child start to think about lighting and composition which are the building blocks of photography. We look at the world in a different way, exploring leading lines, repetition, symmetry and other rules of composition that can be found on every block. We can discuss what is "good light" and how to recognize it. If your child owns a DSLR camera, we can dive into camera settings such as f-stops, shutter speeds and white balance. My five year old twins are already running around looking for good angles with there tablets!

At the end of the photo tour, you will be given take home assignments to practice your skills, which can be shared in the Portland Photo Tour Forum. This is a group open only to those who have participated in a Portland Photo Tour and are interested in learning, inspiring and having fun with photography. Tag me on your assignment posted in the forum and I will give you feedback!

Meeting Location:

Tanner Springs Park, Pearl District

Corner of NW 10th Ave + Marshall Street, Portland, OR 97209

Any camera works including cell phones!

More Info:

Minimum age for this lesson is 10. One legal guardian per child must attend, no charge if the guardian is non-participating (no camera or questions). The base price is for 1-2 people therefore, two children can attend with their non-participating parents. This is a great way to split the cost with another family. Also, a parent can attend with a child and both parent/child can learn and participate in the lesson!

For this lesson, you can book a "Private Photo Tour" on the online calendar. I will reach out with 24 hrs to confirm the lesson plan and meeting location.
